Under the guidance of Maki Riddington, I was able to capture first place in the 2002/2003 BC Summer Open Power Lifting Championships for the 75 kg, sub juniors male division. Three months prior to the event, Maki put together an in-depth power lifting routine specifically designed to increase my strength and reach peak performance by the time of the championships. A month before the tournament, I suffered a rotator cuff injury due to an accident in the gym. Fortunately, with Maki's expertise, we were able to improvise with a series of rehabilitation exercises that allowed me to recover within two short weeks and he provided me with a new routine to counter the circumstances of the injury so I would be in top form by the time of the championships. He thoroughly answered any questions or concerns that came up during my training and did so in a caring and comprehensible manner.

I started this program because I was looking for the missing link in my quest to lose the stubborn last few lbs/fat that just don't want to come off.  I also knew that the one thing that I have an issue with (because I love them so much) is processed carbs,  which I wanted to look at from a nutrition perspective.

There is one necessary tool that is need to make the program work....you have to WORK the program.  Just going to the meeting once a week did nothing for me if I'm not willing to make the sacrifices needed to make the change I am looking for.
Tracking my food keeps me accountable, and brings awareness to my eating habits.  It also helps me think twice about what I am putting in my mouth.  "Is this food helping me achieve my goal or is this food hindering my progress?"
Since being a part of this group I noticed a definite shift in my weightloss.  The so called "plateau" I had been on finally started to move.  By lowering my carb intake, and increasing my protein intake I had more energy, and motivation to keep moving forward in my quest.

In my mind I was eating a healthy diet, and working out enough but I was not seeing movement on the scale.   I was curious to see what would happen to my body if I had someone with the proper knowledge guide me through a nutrition plan customized to my lifestyle.

It was easier to commit to Maki’s program than to try to do it on my own, and that proper snacks, and enough protein are a very important part of my day.  I also feel I have a better understanding of what foods to eat and when to eat them to maximize weight loss, workouts and energy levels With Maki’s guidance I exceeded my original goal of losing 10 pounds while developing a better understanding of the relationship between carbohydrates and protein and how they affect my body.   I feel that Maki gave me the tools to make the right choices, and balance my daily nutrition. 

I would recommend this program to people  who want to attain a better understanding of what balanced nutrition is for your body and how food can work for you to get the results you want.

I started the program in November of last year (2010) and did soinitially because my weight had hit a plateau that I couldn't get past.I also thought there was a bit of room for improvement in my eatinghabits.  The first thing I learned was that my idea of "eating healthy"was far from correct and instead there was a lot of room forimprovement.  I was eating a "carb rich" diet and thought that in orderto loose weight, I should just eat less. After a few months discussingmy eating habits with you, I learned better eating habits and as aresult, past a weight threshold that I couldn't have done withoutmodifying my diet.

I now know that it isn't enough to just "workout" and that you need toput the right fuel into your body.  The convenience of a diet ofprocessed foods is not worth it for all the work you put in at regularexercise.  I thought I knew quite a bit about the proper foods to eatand how to eat healthy, but over the past few months, Maki has shown methat I clearly have quite a bit to learn.  I recommend this program toanyone who wants to make a change in their lives as well as the rest oftheir family with regard to eating properly and more healthy (and as abonus start changing their body shape)

I decided to start the program because what I was doing clearly wasn't working.  I was working out yet I was stuck at a certain weight and no matter what I did, the scale didn't budge.  In fact, it seemed like my weight was slowly creeping upwards despite working out  and "thinking" I was eating well.  Through the program I learned that I was actually undereating and was finally able to learn the importance of snacking, and making the right choices.  

Since starting the program I have lost a total of 7lbs but more importantly I've learned to make better choices.  I would highly recommend this program to anyone looking to make a lifestyle change and the added bonus of losing weight in the process.
